Biography

Dr. Nilce Pereira is an assistant professor of English Literature at the State University of São Paulo, Brazil, and she has conducted extensive research into the field of descriptive translation studies. She is interested in the association of words and pictures in children’s books, comics, graphic novels and illustrated books and she has examined the processes of translation of English classics of these genres into Brazilian Portuguese. She has also approached book illustrations themselves as visual counterparts of the verbal text. Two of her articles dealing with the pictures in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland from the perspective of translation studies are “Book Illustration as Intersemiotic Translation: the Case of Alice in Wonderland in Brazil” (Across Boundaries, 2007) and “Book Illustration as (Intersemiotic) Translation: Pictures Translating Words (Meta LIII, 1, 2008).
